Asking prices by build year in Asian motor yachts

A small tracked sample shows higher median asking prices per metre in newer build-year bands. These are active listing prices, not achieved sale prices.

Bar chart showing median asking price per metre by build-year band for 18-35 m motor yachts in Asia: before 2010 (n=5) $42,400 per metre; 2010-2016 (n=9) $76,400 per metre; 2017 or newer (n=5) $125,800 per metre

For buyers considering an 18-35 m motor yacht in Asia, build year is one useful starting point when comparing asking prices. In this tracked sample, newer yachts carry higher median asking prices both overall and on a per-metre basis, though each yacht still requires an individual assessment.

The figures

Build-year band Priced active listings Median asking price per metre Median asking price
Before 2010 5 USD 42,400 USD 975,000
2010-2016 9 USD 76,400 USD 1,980,000
2017 or newer 5 USD 125,800 USD 2,875,000
Whole sample 19 USD 90,900 USD 1,998,000

Across the whole priced sample, the median build year is 2014 and the median length is 23.99 m. One further tracked yacht is active but does not have a price included in the sample.

What the data suggests

The clearest pattern in this small sample is the difference between build-year bands. The median asking price per metre rises from USD 42,400 for yachts built before 2010 to USD 76,400 for the 2010-2016 group, then to USD 125,800 for yachts built in 2017 or later.

The median asking-price figures follow the same direction: USD 975,000 before 2010, USD 1,980,000 for 2010-2016, and USD 2,875,000 for 2017 or newer. This indicates that buyers looking at more recent yachts should expect higher advertised pricing within this set of Asian listings.

That said, the figures are not a market index and should not be treated as a valuation formula. The sample is limited to yachts being watched by Voyage & Keel, within a defined length range and region, at one point in time. Differences in length, condition, maintenance history, specification, refit standard and location can materially affect any individual asking price.

What it means for buyers

Build year can help frame an initial search, but it should not determine the decision alone. A lower-priced older yacht may be suitable where the purchase plan allows for a structured refit. A newer yacht may command a higher asking price while potentially reducing the immediate scope of certain works. Neither outcome should be assumed from age alone.

Practical points for a buyer’s shortlist include:

  • Compare asking prices per metre alongside total asking price, rather than relying on either measure alone.
  • Review the yacht’s condition and likely refit requirements before drawing conclusions from a lower entry price.
  • Treat the 2010-2016 group as a broad middle ground in this sample, with a median asking price of USD 1,980,000.
  • Keep the whole-sample median of USD 1,998,000 in context: it is a midpoint within this specific set of active listings, not an indication of sale value.
  • Consider how the yacht’s present location, intended refit yard and eventual delivery route fit the overall ownership plan.

Method and limitations

The data comes from Voyage & Keel’s “Vessels We’re Watching” tracker of publicly listed motor yachts in Asia between 18 m and 35 m. Voyage & Keel verified the public listings. The snapshot covers 20 tracked active yachts, of which 19 had prices and are included in the calculations.

All figures are asking prices for active listings, not sale prices. They therefore show advertised expectations rather than concluded transaction values. Prices listed in other currencies were converted to USD using ECB reference rates accessed via frankfurter.app, with rates dated 2026-10-08. The listing snapshot date is 2026-10-06.

The build-year groups contain 5, 9 and 5 priced listings respectively. These are small groups, so their medians are best used as a guide to the current tracked sample rather than a definitive view of the wider market.
